SaLamander Process

Wearing my SaLamander HUD (top left) but I should get a SLoog HUD as well as per the diagram posted here. sloog is a tool for tagging things in- world. . . and the http://www.sloog.org site has a tag cloud that includes education . . . will search there as well.

SaLamander Project

Round two of searching in-world to find physics objects. . . and I must have been too tired last night as I  momentarily forgot about the SaLamander project – created with exactly the goal of indexing learning objects in SL (it is an in-world extension of MERLOT). SaLamander is the brain-child of Jonathan Richter at U Oregon – aka Wainbrave Bernal in-world . . . and just about anything he does is worth following, as an aside! Will search the database today, post images of useful objects I find through it and post links on SaLamander in general.

Here is a SlideShare on SaLamander: http://www.slideshare.net/wainbrave/the-salamander-project/

Last stop on the journey . . .

Last stop for this whirl-wind tour of physics-related site in-world. Makes me think that the manipulative people make should be as well-advertised as the sims themselves. . . when teachers are looking for tools, often they are looking for small things to rez. . . I bet many are out there for physics, but I haven’t found the index to search today. Will look into it tomorrow and log out for the night. :)

Neat in-world map

Nothing to do with science, but a neat map showing you where you and everyone else on an island is.

Launch Sites on Cape Canaveral

Another good map showing how these SL places are linked to RL places. . . in this case US spaceship launch sites.

Earth Imager

More astrophysical machinery . . . or in this case imaging of the earth.

Astrophysics Machinery

Woah – some serious equipment here! This diplay explains how each collects measurements and is calibrated.

On Mars

Something SL is great for – modelling things there is no way they could get to see in RL up-close. Standing on red earth and viewing the Phoenix Lander. . . and WOAH! A Martian dust-devil just flew by! Wasn’t expecting that! Wish all those bots on Mars the best when those things come around!

JPL Map

Wasn’t expecting a map of Pasadena, but I bet it is good for business to have people know you really do exist in RL. I’d say this JPL site is pretty good for PR.
